Economic Justice Booklet Published

The Center has released the first product of a grant-funded project on economic justice—a booklet entitled “Toward Civic Justice and Economic Empowerment: The Promising Responsibility of Christians Committed to Community.” Its primary authors are Amy Sherman, an economist known for her work on poverty relief who has cooperated with the Center on welfare reform projects, and Center for Public Justice president James W. Skillen, with help from Rudy Carrasco, executive director of Harambee Ministries.

Published in mid-October, the booklet was first distributed to participants in the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) annual conference. It outlines a set of eight principles for just economics, aimed at those engaged in business, education, and political life. It is being distributed jointly by the CCDA and the Center for Public Justice. To download a PDF copy, see the link below. The essay is also available to read online.

“Toward Civic Justice and Economic Empowerment” is the fruit of a nine-month collaborative effort. Other contributors include Brian Fikkert, Covenant College; Bruce Webb, Gordon College; Gideon Strauss, Work Research Foundation; and John Truschel, The Boston Company.

Further results of the Center’s economic justice project will include a small book and a statement on economic justice for the Center's Guidelines series. The Center is grateful to the anonymous foundation that has made this work possible.
